"Faden" in German means Thread or thread like, giving name to this quartz due to its characteristic of a cloudy thread like zone running the length of the interior of the crystal. The Faden effect typically occurs in tabular varietys of quartz formed inside rock fissures, and are less commonly found in long single points as pictured. The effect is due to tiny gas and liquid bubbles trapped inside the crystal during its staggered formation.

    Quartz has a mineral hardness of 7 Mohs, so keep it away from softer gemstones to ensure they don't become damaged by your tough Quartz point. However this gem is also fragile due to its length. Take extra care not to drop it, or it will likely shatter!
